Is it time for your ac to be repaired?

Today I needed to get my ac repaired in St. Louis, and I was worried that it was going to take forever.  You see it's over ninety degrees here today, so I was assuming there would be a lot of machines that were messed up from the winter getting serviced.  To my surprise when I called the heating and cooling company they did tell me they were very busy, but would have a technician to my house before 6 PM.  I was very happy about this, because I have a young child and didn't want to put her life in danger, because of the hot temperatures.

So now the question is why did my air conditioner break on like the second day that I have used it this season?  I have gone online to do some research and apparently you are supposed to do regular maintenance on your air conditioner each year.  I also found out that you can have a professional heating and cooling company do it, or you can do it yourself if you know what you are doing.  Or if you are competent enough to figure it out without messing things up.  That could be a problem for me, because I am not very technically savvy.

I do think that I will ask the St. Louis air conditioning guy that is coming out to my house what it is that I can do in order to at least help this not happen again.  I get that things break down and there is nothing we can do about it, but if I can pay just a small amount each year and not have to worry about my ac unit breaking down, then that is something I will definitely consider in the future.  I'm not big on hot and humid days and neither is my child.  Not to mention I also have animals and don't really want to put then in danger either.

Who knows he might even give me some easy do it at home tips that I can do to keep my AC unit up and running without having someone come out every year.  I just hope I don't have a defective air conditioner, because I had to have it looked at twice last year, but this year I called a different heating and cooling company, so maybe they will take care of it a little better for me.
